What Is GPSR? The General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR) is the EU’s updated rulebook for making sure all products — even books — are safe for consumers. It replaces the older General Product Safety Directive and introduces stricter standards for production processes, materials, and risk assessments. In essence, it is about making sure the things you buy are safe to use. How Does Libri Stay Compliant? This is what we do: Use only Certified Printers: We work with trusted printers who meet EU-approved safety requirements. Every year, they review their materials — like paper, ink, and glue — and renew their safety certificates to ensure they’re still up to scratch, using only high-quality, safe materials during production. Undertake Annual Risk Reviews: Every year, we will conduct risk analyses to refine our processes and make sure we’re always improving and in line with the regulations. But Who is Responsible for the Content? While we ensure books are safe as physical products, individual authors are still responsible for the content. As the publisher, we will work with our authors to ensure the content complies with any relevant legal or safety standards. And we will progressively improve the Imprint page in each of our books to provide more detail about ourselves, our printers and our European representatives What does this mean for our Authors? Not much, really. They can leave all the safety stuff to us and our printing partners. But they should always double-check or research, with us if necessary, any relevant laws or regulations that may apply to their content. Questions? If you have any questions about GPSR or how to enjoy your books safely, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
